Mr. Capalbo is a graduate of the Upland High School class of 1979. He continued on with his education and earned his Bachelors Degree from California State University, Northridge. In addition to being Assistant Director for the award-winning Upland Highland Regiment and Color Guard, Mr. Capalbo is the Director of the Jazz program at Upland High School. Mr. Capalbo still performs with local jazz groups.
Pioneer Junior High Bands
Randy Dulaney graduated from Valley View High School in Moreno Valley and later graduated from Southern Utah University with his Bachelor's in Music Education. Mr. Dulaney has worked in the Temecula Valley Unified School District, Murrieta Valley Unified School District, and most recently, in the Seminole County Public School in Florida. As a trumpet player, Mr. Dulaney marched as a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard and is still very involved with several Drum and Bugle Corps.
Upland Junior High Bands
Brennan England graduated from Arcadia High School and then received his Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles. He then received his Master’s degree and California teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach. When Mr. England is not teaching, he is playing the trombone professionally around Los Angeles.
Elementary Bands, Music Coordinator
Ms. Esbenshade is a graduate of the nearby rival, Alta Loma High School. She went on to receive her Bachelor's degree and teaching credential at California State University, Fullerton and just recently graduated from Concordia University, Irvine with her Master's degree in Educational Technology. Having taught band and choir at Pioneer Junior High for 12 years, Ms. Esbenshade now teaches beginning band and general music at Baldy View Elem, Citrus Elem, Foothill Knolls STEM School, Upland Elem, and Valencia Elementary and has recently accepted the post of District Music Coordinator.
Upland High School Choirs
Roger Estrada received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from California State University, Fullerton in 1998 and his Master’s Degree from Colorado State University in 2011 with his primary focus on conducting. He is is the Director of the Upland High School Choral Music Department and responsible for over 200 choral students consisting of Aria - an all-women's auditioned choir, Men's Ensemble - an intro choir for men, Chorale - an advanced mixed choir, the Madrigals - the elite mixed Chamber Ensemble and Expressions, an advanced 16 member vocal jazz group. He and his students have participated in local adjudicated festivals, workshops, parades, community event, sports openings, graduations, and even Barbershop venues, in addition to their featured concerts throughout the year.
Junior High Choirs
Deborah McReynolds graduated Magna cum laude, earning her Bachelor of the Arts Degree in music and psychology from the University of Redlands, and obtained her Master's degree in Middle School Education from Cal State San Bernardino. Deborah has enjoyed being in education for the past 27 years. In the Etiwanda School District, she taught math, science, and directed the choir at Etiwanda and Summit Intermediate Schools. For the past 7 years, she has developed an after school drama, musical theater, and choir program at Day Creek Intermediate School where she directed annual Broadway Jr. musicals. She has continued to teach private voice and piano lessons for the past 26 years, as well as direct both adult and children's choirs at churches in her community.
Upland High School Bands
Mr. Miranda graduated from Savanna High School in Orange County. He continued on with his education and received his Bachelor's degree and Masters in Music Degree from California State University, Fullerton. In addition to directing the award-winning Upland Highland Regiment and Color Guard, Mr. Miranda also conducts the Concert and Symphonic bands, as well as the Upland High School Wind Ensemble.
Ms. Jodie Whipp graduated from Valley Forge High School in Ohio, received her Bachelor's degree from Cal Poly Pomona in Music Education as well as her Master's degree in Educational Technology. Ms. Whipp teaches beginning band and general music at five of Upland's elementary schools - Cabrillo, Magnolia, Pepper Tree, Sierra Vista, and Sycamore Elementary. When she is not teaching, Ms. Whipp enjoys composing, song-writing, recording, and music and film production. She has two daughters, one of whom is following in her footsteps as she is studying to become a music teacher as well!
